The Soviet project of the Moscow Brain Institute is one of the forgotten utopian projects of the Soviet era, whose aim was to comprehend the mysterious phenomenon of human genius. Employees of the institute had the right to extract the brains of famous individuals, and after studying them, the brains were to be placed in a special Pantheon. Among the institute's "clients" were Lenin, Mayakovsky, Andrei Bely, and Eduard Bagritsky. Scientists sought answers not only through biological research but also by interviewing relatives and acquaintances of the "subjects." As a result, the institute obtained unique documents that tell about the habits, health, preferences, and weaknesses of the heroes. Relying on archival sources, Monica Lvovna Spivak created a true cultural detective story, in which entire archives disappear and then suddenly reappear, and phantasmagoric projects come to life only to freeze forever afterward.
