John Dickson Carr: master of the detective genre, an American writer, one of the brightest representatives of the "golden age of the detective genre." He is often mentioned alongside classics such as Agatha Christie, Gilbert Keith Chesterton, and Gaston Leroux.
Carr is called a specialist in locked-room murders – plots where the victim is found in a locked room with no visible signs of the intruder's entry. This device can be found, for example, in the novel "The Ghost Man." The writer defined a detective as "an exercise in human ingenuity, a trap and a double snare, a game that the author plays against the reader from chapter to chapter."
