Shaken by several high-profile suicides in the 1870s, Fyodor Dostoevsky writes the story "The Gentle One." Escaping from poverty, a young girl marries a moneylender. He is a man of principle and self-control, she is quiet, sensitive, as if created for peace. But the "order" in the house quickly becomes a cage, and care takes the form of power.
