Ten Swordsmen

The epic novel by Eiji Yoshikawa introduces us to Japan in the seventeenth century through the fate of the famous swordsman Musashi Miyamoto, a symbolic figure of Japanese culture, whose name became legend even during his lifetime. The image of the noble warrior from the feudal past has served as the basis for numerous books, films, series, and theatrical productions. A significant part of this multitude is inspired by the novel 'Ten Swordsmen'.

Masterfully intertwining real events and artistic fiction, Yoshikawa quite strictly adheres to historical tradition even regarding the adventurous-romantic line of the novel, which creates a vivid and multi-layered portrait of an entire era. At the same time, this is a deeply individual and psychologically honest coming-of-age story, a story about the search for a path and the pursuit of perfection.
