Atharva Veda (Shaunaka)

Atharva Veda, or the Veda of the fire priest Atharvana, is a collection of metric spells and incantations that formed mainly in the early 1st millennium BCE in the central part of Northern India. It consists of 20 books (the largest, the 20th book, contains borrowings from the Rig Veda).

This current compiled edition of the previously published three-volume set (vol. 1 - 2005, vol. 2 - 2007, vol. 3 - 2010) includes books I-XIX of this monument translated and commented on by the outstanding Russian linguist, expert on Vedic language and literature T.Ya. Elizarenkova (1929 - 2007).

It publishes a preface by T.Ya. Elizarenkova (to vol. 1) "Atharva Veda - structure and content", an introduction (to vol. 3) by V.V. Vertogradova, and a comprehensive Dictionary of major mythological characters and ritual concepts.
