Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Lev Gurov is investigating the death of Ekaterina Slepnyeva, a fan of the talent of the detective's wife, a famous actress. Never missing a single performance, the avid theatergoer unexpectedly did not attend the last premiere. It later turned out that she had committed suicide. The investigation established that the reason for the suicide was the infidelity of Slepnyeva's partner: next to the body, photographs were found showing him in the embrace of a rival. But the man denies everything. Gurov learns that a few days before Slepnyeva's death, her first husband, from whom she was divorced, died under strange circumstances.
