The wealth that has befallen the Gromov family triggers a chain of fatal events. While the father indulges in luxury and woos the beautiful Anfisa, his son Prokhor heads into the taiga to seek new trade routes and test his mettle. Young and ambitious, he dreams of building an empire. But the higher the ascent, the more terrible the fall. Will he be able to resist temptation, or will the taiga swallow his soul?

"Gloomy River" by Vyacheslav Shishkov was published in parts since 1928, and it soon moved from store shelves to home libraries. This is the first volume in the classic design of the MIF series "Eternal Stories".
