Tales and Stories

This collection by I. S. Shmelev includes stories and novellas written in emigration, "after Russia." The creativity of this period became an attempt to understand the reasons for the tragedy that occurred in the country, to restore inner peace, and to move from crisis and despair to joy and the discovery of faith. It is not accidental that the main themes of these works become repentance, the saving "voice in the night," spiritual purification, and rebirth. The collection includes autobiographical stories, as well as stories about people whose fates were differently changed by the revolution, and stories-memories "from childhood."

Reading them in chronological order, one can see the complex spiritual work of the writer on his path from the earthly homeland to God.
