Illustrations and Sketches by J. R. R. Tolkien for "The Lord of the Rings"

While Tolkien was working on "The Lord of the Rings," his mental representations and images often found expression in drawings, from rough sketches right in the manuscript text to finished illustrations. Only a few of them were intended for print; for the most part, they served as support for Tolkien, helping to create a consistent, coherent narrative.

In the luxurious edition "Illustrations and Sketches for J. R. R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings'", all these drawings, inscriptions, maps, plans, and sketches are collected under one cover. 

The book contains more than 180 images, more than half of which have never been published before.
