The Player

Fyodor Dostoevsky – the main Russian writer, a master of psychological prose and an expert in hidden human passions. One of which – gambling (ludomania) – he himself was once subjected to. Alexei Ivanovich, a simple domestic teacher, lives with the family of an elderly general in a luxurious hotel at the German resort of Roulettenburg. While all the gentlemen are waiting for the death of the rich Russian aunt of the general to inherit, the main character gets embroiled in tormenting love affairs, based only on pride and calculation. He desperately tests his fate and luck at roulette. After all, "money is everything!", or is it not?
