The first dystopian novel "We" was written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1920 and describes the world of a totalitarian One State, where individuality is destroyed in favor of the collective. The main character, engineer D-503, works on the construction of the spaceship "Integral" and keeps a diary that reveals his internal changes after meeting the mysterious I-330. This encounter awakens feelings and doubts in him that threaten the orderly system of society. The prophetic novel was perceived as a malicious caricature of the "bright communist future" and was banned from publication in the USSR until 1988.
