He shares his childhood memories as naturally as stories from his past lives, referring to thirteen predecessors and reflecting on his successor. He often speaks about his role as the spiritual leader of Tibet, the necessity to speak on behalf of his people, and comments on how his activities are perceived by the world community. The uniqueness of this spiritual biography lies in the fact that it is built around his three main life missions: as a person, he affirms the importance of cultivating soul qualities for the common good; as a Buddhist monk – he calls for dialogue with other religions, with non-believers, with scientists; as the Dalai Lama – he advocates a politics of kindness and appeals to the conscience of the world. The compiler of the book, Sofia Stril-Rever, has been collecting the speeches of the Dalai Lama for over fifteen years. A film titled 'Dalai Lama: Life After Life' was made based on her script. In January 2009, the Dalai Lama personally approved Ms. Stril-Rever's work on the publication of his speeches.
