The Mistress of the Bhatia House. Book 4

Bombay, 1922. Pervin Mistry practices law in a city where women have almost no access to medicine, and prejudice and social inequality prevail everywhere. At a charity evening to support a new women's hospital, Pervin witnesses a tragedy: a child's clothing catches fire, and his nanny, a young servant named Sunanda, tries to save him. However, the girl is soon accused of arson based on the words of a mysterious witness who cannot be found.

The situation is complicated when the chief sponsor of the hospital unexpectedly dies – suspicion falls on Sunanda and the woman doctor Miriam Penkar. The investigation takes Pervin into the heart of Bombay, but the summer kitchen of the Mistry house, which catches fire in the middle of the night, makes it clear: not only Sunanda's freedom is at stake, but also the safety of Pervin and her loved ones.
