Peace with Honor. War with Honor. Reflections on the Custom of War

In 1934, author of the Winnie-the-Pooh books and World War I veteran A.A. Milne published "Peace with Honor," a book with an eloquent plea to prevent a new war in Europe at any cost. Six years later, in 1940, Milne had to write a sequel — "War with Honor," where, remaining a proponent of peace, he acknowledged that Nazism must be fought with the force of arms. An involuntary dilogy, created in a grim time and first translated into Russian, is a unique document of the 20th century, a reflection on human nature and the limits of pacifism.
