In the Quiet Depths of NEP

The book by the renowned historian and publicist Andrei Ikonnikov-Galitsky is a continuation of his author's cycle about the criminal life of the former capital of the Russian Empire and this time is dedicated to the NEP period. It tells about the harsh confrontation between the Criminal Investigation Department and the police against the criminal world of NEP-era Petrograd–Leningrad. Among the characters in the book are such celebrities as the king of bandits Lenya Panteleev and the founder of the St. Petersburg school of forensic science of the new era Alexei Andreevich Sal'kov. Several chapters are specifically devoted to various types of crimes: banditry, murders, fraud, theft, robbery, prostitution, hooliganism, etc., as well as the work of law enforcement system employees: courts, police departments, correctional labor institutions. The book is written based on newspaper and magazine court and police chronicles and scientific research. The publication is equipped with an insert containing illustrations.
