Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare (1564–1616) is the greatest English poet and playwright. His works include 'Hamlet', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Macbeth', 'Othello', 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', and other pieces. There is little information about Shakespeare's life
that has survived. He was born in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon into a wealthy family. His father, John Shakespeare, was a tradesman. His mother, née Mary Arden, belonged to an ancient family.

William Shakespeare began his theatrical career in London. In 1599, with the funds of the acting troupe to which Shakespeare belonged, the 'Globe' theatre was built. On stage, he managed not only to present his own written plays but also to participate in productions.

The creation of one of the most famous plays 'Romeo and Juliet' is dated to 1594–1595. The story of the ill-fated lovers is inspired by the ancient plot of Pyramus and Thisbe, as described in Ovid's poem 'Metamorphoses'.
