Steps

This book "Steps" presents the theoretical and pedagogical works of Vasily Vasilyevich Kandinsky (1866–1944), the founder of abstract art. This edition is based on three essential texts for the artist: "On the Spiritual in Art", "Point and Line on Plane" (translation from German), as well as his book of prose poems "Sounds" (translation from German). It also includes important pedagogical developments by Kandinsky, who taught at the famous Vkhutemas and INHUK after the revolution. The appendices at the end of the book expand on the context in which the artist worked.
This edition is prepared in this composition for the first time and thus has historical, cultural, and scientific significance. The introductory article reflects on the main facts of the artist's biography, and the extensive commentary is based on contemporary materials about Kandinsky's life and work. Inside the book, a color insert presents the works of Kandinsky the artist.
Kandinsky developed the foundations of composition in new art, as well as the most important principles of color theory. Recognizing the highest purpose of art throughout its progressive development and defining the role of the artist as a prophet, Kandinsky proclaimed the beginning of the "Era of Great Spirituality". His reflections absorbed the spirit of the time and made a significant theoretical contribution to the understanding of art's departure from "object dependence".
