After finishing school in a rundown town in Kentucky, Marietta Greer buys an ancient beat-up "Volkswagen" and sets off on a journey across America in search of a better fortune. She doesn't expect miracles, but she knows for sure that in her hometown, there’s nothing for someone like her to catch. Gloom, despair, monotony – that’s all the Pittman County can offer you. Yes, Lord, in the 70s they still didn't know what a rotary phone was! If you wanted to call someone, you had to pick up the receiver and tell the operator: "Miss, connect me..."
"Oh, no, I’ve had enough of Kentucky," – Marietta said to herself as she set off. – "Goodbye, Pittman County, I will never return here".
