On Faith, Unbelief, and Doubt

What is faith in God? It seems so simple and clear to us. But do we ponder the significant event when we read in different places in the Gospel the words of the Lord: your faith has saved you, go in peace? And the words of Jesus Christ mean that one who has faith attains salvation, that one who has faith begins to live in a state of tranquility. According to the explanation of the Holy Fathers, the peace given by Christ is the grace of the Holy Spirit.

But even those who consider themselves believers in God often do not feel this gracious peace within themselves. What hinders this? A fleeting doubt in the truths of faith often deprives us of peace, and a misunderstanding of the dogmas of faith, combined with self-confidence, leads to unbelief. What then is this true faith? Why did the apostles say: Lord, increase our faith?

Metrpolitan Benjamin’s entire life was "woven together with these questions," and his book "On Faith, Unbelief, and Doubt" he called his confession of the heart.
