Escaping from a past full of fears and secrets, Katrien flees her native village to the thriving Delft. Thanks to her artistic talent, she gets a job at a porcelain factory. When supplies of expensive Chinese porcelain are interrupted, the factory owner comes up with a bold plan—to surpass the Eastern masters. Inspired by Dutch landscapes, Katrien creates unique paintings of deep blue color, destined to gain worldwide fame. But suddenly, the fragile happiness of the girl is overshadowed by a series of misfortunes, and her heart cannot choose between two brothers: the daring Matthias and the prudent Evert.
