Erich Fromm – the greatest thinker of the 20th century, one of the great cohort of "philosophers of psychology" and the spiritual leader of the Frankfurt School of Sociology.
Fromm's unwavering belief in the predominance of moral principles over base instincts makes his works especially relevant today.


The relationship between man and society has long attracted philosophers. Is the individual by nature antisocial, as Freud claimed, or is Marx's assumption that man is a social animal correct?
Erich Fromm, who attempted to reconcile these opposing viewpoints, expresses the opinion that modern society is infected with the depersonalization of the individual. The only cure for this disease is the acquisition of positive freedom – "freedom for something", making the transition from a state of "having" to a state of "being".
