The Freedom of Dreams

A regular Moscow apartment, a Christmas nativity about King Herod, and nightmarish memories from the past. All these are parts of one story told by writer and screenwriter Sergey Bondarenko.
Once in his family archive, he found an old article written... by his great-grandfather Alexander Smirnitsky in 1913 titled "On the Question of the Degeneration of Nativity Drama" and a box with props for home performances. He remembered the stories he had heard from his grandfather about how one spring night in 1938, his father was taken away in an unknown direction for many years. The feelings of a child looking at the sealed door of his father's room unfolded in the COVID isolation of 2020 along with the archive and transformed into new stories. And those, in turn, became this graphic novel illustrated by the experimental animator Yura Boguslavsky.
