Myths and Legends of Belarus

A collection of myths, legends, beliefs, and folk tales of the Belarusian people, recorded by Belarusian, Russian, and Polish ethnographers in the 19th–20th centuries. All stories are presented in the translation of the compiler — Doctor of Philological Sciences E. E. Levkievskaia, preserving the features of the original text.

As an integral part of the East Slavic tradition, Belarusian mythology has its unique characteristics. It harmoniously combines its own Belarusian plots with images and characters borrowed from neighboring peoples. These interweavings create a bizarre fabric of mythological plots, characters, and phenomena.
