The beginning of the Sui dynasty, the second half of the 6th century. The state of Khotan sends an embassy to the new emperor. As a gift, they carry the rarest gemstone – the jade of the Heavenly Lake. However, the convoy is attacked, the envoy and his retinue are killed, and the jade of the Heavenly Lake disappears along with the concubine.
To investigate this extremely complicated case, Feng Xiao, the second master of the Hall of Manifested Swords, a secret service that reports directly to the emperor, arrives in the town of Lugun. A series of mysteries leads him to a suspicious Daoist, Cui Buciu, who is supposedly engaged in reviving his decrepit monastery. He is weak in health but possesses rare insight. Each has their own aspirations and schemes, they are completely different, but in order to find out what happened to the jade of the Heavenly Lake, they will have to forget their disagreements and join forces.
