The Knight Jaufre and the Beautiful Brunissende

The plot of the novel tells about a young man who wishes to demonstrate his knightly valor and take revenge for an insult inflicted by a certain enemy on the great King Arthur. Jaufre sets off in search of the villain, enduring various adventures, finding love, and overcoming many dangers. The novel about Jaufre is the only work of the Arthurian cycle in the Occitan language. In 1856, Marie-Lafon published a revised text of the novel under the title "The Knight Jaufre and the Beautiful Brunissende" (Les Aventures du chevalier Jaufre et de la belle Brunissende). In this edition, the story of the amazing journey of the noble hero is illustrated with engravings by the famous Gustave Doré.
