The Books of Wisdom of Solomon

In the Books of Wisdom of Solomon, which include the Book of Wisdom of Solomon, the Book of Ecclesiastes, and the Proverbs of Solomon, doctrinal and moral teachings of the prophet Solomon, the king of Israel, are collected. The depth of the teachings contained in these books and their instructive character have led to these books being held in great esteem in the Church since ancient times.

In the Orthodox Church, six parables are borrowed from the Book of Wisdom of Solomon for church services on the days of the memory of prophets, martyrs, monks, and hierarchs, since all these saints embodied in their lives the lessons of true wisdom and manifested the celebrated triumph of truth and piety over delusions and wickedness in their fates, as proclaimed in the Book of Wisdom. At the end of this book, a complete life of King Solomon is presented, narrated by Saint Philaret of Chernihiv.
