The Blood of Others

Élène lives in Paris and works in a pastry shop. Her boyfriend Paul is passionate about politics: demonstrations, struggles, world news. He leads a full life, unlike Élène, who can only dream and daydream in anticipation of something real. Everything changes when Élène meets Jean — now she is ready to give her heart, to dissolve completely in her beloved man. However, it seems that her love is not needed by him at all… Only when the war begins and fascist troops invade France, when it is no longer possible to stay aloof from events, does Élène finally have the opportunity to prove her sincere love and win reciprocal feelings.
The novel “The Blood of Others,” partially based on real events, was first published in 1945 and brought Simone de Beauvoir great success. In 1984, “The Blood of Others” was adapted into a film by the famous French director Claude Chabrol, with Jodie Foster playing the lead role.
