Ancient and Hellenistic Greece. History from the Origins to the Times of Alexander the Great

The study of the famous German scholar Dr. Alfred Hois, dedicated to the history of Ancient Greece, begins with the emergence and evolution of ancient cultures in the Aegean region, the islands of Crete and Mycenae. In the first section of the book, Hois presents the beginning of the archaic period of Greek history with the Great, or Aegean, migration of peoples from the 12th century BC to the turn of the millennium. Hois describes how the Greek people developed in the area of intellectual growth and social existence during the archaic period, how the Greek writing system was created and the common pantheon of gods for all Greeks, and how relationships between local cults were established. The second section is dedicated to the classical era of Greece - a whole series of wars and political events, while at the same time it was an era of the highest flourishing of state structure, achievements in science, architecture, art, and poetry. The accomplishments of the Greeks during this period are so great and significant that they still inspire civilized nations to take them as a model.
