The German historian, professor of theology, specialist in the interpretation of biblical texts, translator, Hebraist, and author of works on the history of ancient Judea and early Christianity, Oscar Holtzmann, first published his fundamental work "The Fall of the Jewish...
State" in 1888.
This work is part of a large-scale project on universal history published by the German scholar W. Oncken. Holtzmann's impartiality and independence in illuminating the described events significantly redeem some shortcomings in the text's presentation. In 1899, the book was translated into Russian, as it holds serious scientific value and is one of the most authoritative studies of the 19th century on the ancient history of the Jewish people. In Russia, the well-known philologist and orientalist G.G. Heckel worked on its text.
The author narrates about the era of the Second Temple from the 3rd century BC to the First Jewish War (6671 years). The edition presents the most important aspects of the life of the Jewish people in the Middle East.
