Mariyka's Childhood

The novella "Mariyka's Childhood" is the story of an eight-year-old girl whose childhood took place during the difficult revolutionary years. Mariyka is a cook's daughter, clever and observant. She knows how to enjoy life, loves to read, and dreams most of all about education. Her dream is unattainable, but Mariyka does not think about it yet.
Time passes... Girls from affluent families go to gymnasium, while Mariyka continues to help her mother in the kitchen and spends time outdoors... She does not despair, but wonders: "Who will I be when I grow up?" Mariyka will get the answer when life around her begins to change rapidly.
