The Cursed Chair

The French Academy was founded as a private society in 1625 thanks to Cardinal Richelieu. It is a scientific institution in France, whose goals are to study the French language and literature. It has 40 members. Election to the academy... is for life, so academicians are called "the immortals." When one of them dies, another is chosen to take their place; the newly elected member must give a speech in honor of their deceased predecessor.

The fortieth seat in the Academy has become vacant, and among many candidates, the most deserving must be selected. However, after the deaths of three candidates, the number of those wishing to join has noticeably decreased. There are rumors of a curse placed on the "cursed chair." Will anyone be able to avoid death, or will this seat remain forever vacant?..
