This novel is an engaging reinterpretation of Mark Twain's “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” shocking and fiercely funny. The story is told from Jim's perspective, the very slave with whom Huck embarks on a dangerous journey down the Mississippi River. Many plot details are preserved, but Jim, or rather, James, appears before us in a new, completely unexpected light. Everett wrote a novel about the pursuit of freedom and what it takes to attain that freedom.
