In the once quiet provincial Chupov, serious passions are boiling. While local politicians prepare to fight for the temporarily ownerless power, a huge dump on the outskirts is growing faster than election headquarters can unfold. And now the looming ecological disaster becomes a convenient lever for manipulating the electorate. On opposite sides of the foul-smelling Rubicon are former colleagues, former friends, and former spouses. And everything that once united them—views, dreams, interests, even places of residence and work—becomes former. There is nowhere to retreat or advance. Something must change.
