Nikolai Ivanovich and Glafira Semyonovna, a young merchant couple from St. Petersburg, are going to Paris to visit the World Expo and see if the Neva River is visible from the top of the Eiffel Tower, as well as to stroll through shops and enjoy local delicacies and entertainment. The journey to Paris and back goes through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and everywhere the Russian tourists find adventures and get into trouble. And how can it be otherwise if the couple does not know foreign languages and does not understand local traditions and customs?
