The book tells about the scents of ancient civilizations – Sumer, Babylon, Assyria, Egypt, Judea, Greece, Byzantium, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire.

The author, a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, Tatiana Kondo, has been a juror for many years in the international fragrance competition "FIFI Russian Fragrance Awards." This book is the result of a deep study of the history of fragrances. The author examines the lives of people "through the prism" of scents: she discusses ancient customs, medicine, magic, and religion.

The text includes numerous recipes, translated into Russian for the first time. More than three hundred illustrations vividly depict the "life and existence" of the ancient Oikoumene.
