The History of Hodja Nasreddin

This happened in the city of Baghdad during the reign of the great caliph Harun al-Rashid in the 8th century. One day, a ragged man sneaked into the harem of the Baghdad palace. He called himself Hodja Nasreddin, and his audacious act, of course, outraged the public peace. Thus began this story, true and at the same time fantastic, resembling one of Scheherazade's tales.
