The famous English orientalist and archaeologist Wallis Budge dedicated his entire life to the study of Ancient Egypt and wrote over one hundred and twenty research works on the subject. His book "The Gods of the Egyptians" is devoted to perhaps the most interesting aspect of the cultural life of the inhabitants of the Nile Valley – religion and mythology. By extraordinarily vividly and engagingly retelling myths, the author showcases the diverse world of gods and deities worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, reveals the peculiarities of their views on the afterlife, and describes the rituals and sacraments cautiously observed by this remarkably god-fearing people. The author pays special attention to hieroglyphic writing, accompanying original texts with transliteration and translation. The book is equipped with illustrations taken from papyri, ancient books, and the surfaces of sarcophagi.
