Moscow-Petushki

«Moscow — Petushki» — a cult poem about the journey of the drunken philosopher Venichka, which took place, or maybe did not. Only one thing is known for sure: Venichka never saw the Kremlin, but he reached the Kursk railway station.... After all, a girl with white eyes and the meekest of all infants, who knows the letter «ю», is waiting for Venichka in Petushki. The hero of Yerofeyev is a biblical martyr, immersed in the chaos of Soviet reality, yet striving for a higher life. On this journey, he is accompanied by angels and alcoholic drinks of varying strengths. Will Venichka reach Petushki? Let it remain a mystery.
 
The poem «Moscow — Petushki» was written in 1969, first published in Russia in 1988–1989 in the magazine «Sobriety and Culture». Since then, the poem has been published multiple times and translated into many languages.
