Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace

Edward Luttwak is a renowned specialist in military strategy and geopolitics. He has worked as a consultant in the National Security Council and the U.S. State Department, and was an advisor to President Ronald Reagan. He is the creator of geo-economics—a branch of geopolitics that studies the economic situation in various countries to enhance a state's influence through its economic power and to ensure the achievement of foreign policy goals, whether global or regional, through economic means. In the book "Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace," he discusses the "paradoxical" logic underlying strategic thinking. Four levels of strategy are examined: technique, tactics, operational art, theater strategy, and grand strategy. The author analyzes new type wars—"post-heroic wars"—born from the fear of losses and the desire to avoid them at any cost.
