The collection of miniatures by Evgeny and Galina Sosnovsky rightfully occupies a special place among the largest world collections. A significant part of it is dedicated to a genre that has long remained in the shadows – family and children's... portraiture.
The idea of family love and unity is the foundation of the collection. This is why the collection of Evgeny and Galina Sosnovsky becomes not only an artistic but also a deeply human document, multifaceted in reflecting the values and culture of past generations.
For the first time, this publication allows one to compare numerous miniatures created in the genre of family and children's portraits across different countries and over several centuries.
This catalog is the first of three that describes the entire collection. The first section presents a unique collection of portrait miniatures from the Bourbon-Orleans collection, which is confirmed by references to the relevant documents. The catalog is further organized by countries (excluding Italy, which will be fully covered in a separate second volume).
The Sosnovsky collection, consisting of about 800 high-quality art pieces, includes works by both renowned miniaturists and lesser-known or unjustly forgotten masters.
The first volume of this collection contains over 400 miniatures.
