The Galvins seemed like the ideal American family. The father is a military man, the mother a homemaker, both actively involved in the public and social life of the state and country. Twelve children—ten boys and two girls—are the pride... of the family; they are talented and hold great promise. Suddenly, the eldest son, a successful university student, is diagnosed with "schizophrenia." Over the next few years, five more Galvin sons are found to have this serious illness. From there, hell begins: it turns out that behind the perfect facade lay a far from perfect life: physical and sexual violence, abuse, drugs—but the parents, Don and Mimi, turned a blind eye to what was happening until the end. All of this inevitably leads to tragic consequences and the disintegration of family members. For several decades, scientists, psychiatrists, and geneticists have been grappling with the mystery of the Galvin family, proposing various hypotheses. But will they be able to find the answer and give hope to millions of people?
