Karl Hans Strobl (1877 – 1946) – an Austrian writer known for his stories about ghosts, demons, and mysterious phenomena. He began his writing career in the early years of the 20th century, publishing theatrical and literary criticism in newspapers.... During World War I, he worked as a war correspondent, then fully dedicated himself to literary activities, publishing in Germany the magazine "The Orchid Garden," which is considered the first publication in the world dedicated to fantasy. Like masters such as Gustav Meyrink, Leo Perutz, and Hans Evers, Karl Strobl entertained readers of the early "iron age" with vibrant phantasmagorias about vampires and demons, mysterious cults, and animated automatons, placing heroes in grotesque, improbable, yet highly recognizable situations. The mystical plots of Bosch, Breugel, and Goya seem to come alive in these literary canvases...
