Daughters of Ares: The Story of Ancient Amazons

Amazons are often referred to as any warlike women. However, the authors of this book (under the pseudonym Oleg Ivik, journalist Olga Kolobova and archaeologist Valery Ivanov) dedicated their work to the true Amazons: women whom ancient authors attributed with creating their own militarized states within the oikoumene. The story will also cover Scythian and Sarmatian warrior women — their history is too closely intertwined with the history of the mythological Amazons.

The authors do not offer their answer to the question of whether Amazons actually existed. But they have tried to present all they learned about this tribe from the materials of ancient authors and modern archaeologists in an interesting and reliable manner.
