Having experienced the revolution, the civil war, and emigration, she maintained an astonishing honesty and inner integrity. Deprivations, disappointments, and despair did not break her. Fate brought her together with outstanding contemporaries who contributed to the fate of Russia: she personally knew Nadezhda Krupskaya, communicated with Ivan Bunin, Zinaida Gippius, Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Alexander Kuprin, Pyotr Struve, and Pavel Milyukov.
