Myths of Ancient India. Gods and Heroes

The mythology of ancient India is no less vast and majestic than that of antiquity or the Bible, but very few can boast that they know the adventures of Rama, the feats of Arjuna, or the abduction of Sita as well as they know the adventures of Odysseus, the feats of Hercules, or the abduction of the Golden Fleece. This book introduces the reader to the amazing world of ancient Indian myths and epic poems "Ramayana" and "Mahabharata" - a world that is mysterious and magical, full of poetry and heroism.
Artistic adaptations of the tales of Ancient India were made by Russian writers M. B. Chistyakov and A. G. Smirnova in the 19th century and are virtually unknown to modern readers. In addition to them, the current edition includes chapters from the book by British art historian and missionary J. M. Macfie "Myths and Legends of India".
A wonderful addition to the texts is the numerous book miniatures created by Indian artists in the 16th–19th centuries, as well as lithographs based on the drawings of the outstanding illustrator of ancient myths Raja Ravi Varma.
