In the provincial town of Holt, sprawling among the endless plains of Colorado, life is bustling. Here, every resident has their own story: elderly brothers McFerons miss Victoria Rubido — a young mother who became like a daughter to them, and has now left to study; a boy single-handedly takes care of his old grandfather, and a married couple is forced to defend themselves against a violent relative.
