Saint Petersburg. White nights. Summer houses on the Karpovka River.
In the house of the venerable old lady Natalia Dmitrievna, a small circle often gathers, spending rainy evenings reading, listening to music, and conversing. One day, after a debate about literature, they decide to write a short story based on their memories and present these stories for public judgment.
The stories that rush by the bored summer residents are about balls and intrigues of high society, merchant families, the silence of monastery cells, and first love in the shadow of a blooming noble estate.
But certainly, at the center of each of these stories is a woman, with her interests and dreams, love and fears, prohibitions and desires.
