The Thunderstorm

"The Thunderstorm" was born out of Ostrovsky's literary expedition along the Volga – and from the ardent love of the young playwright for the actress Lyubov Kositcyna. It is her best traits that formed the character of Katerina Kabanova, and she was the first to perform this role on stage. The play became a loud event in the literary life of its time and has not left the theatrical stage to this day.

Raised in parental love and affection, Katerina finds herself in a household after marriage where life is governed by strict domestic laws and the cruel will of her mother-in-law. And to her misfortune, she falls in love with another man... Is she ready to risk everything – even the purity of her soul – for this unexpected love?

The book also includes the play "The Dowryless Bride" – a drama about a girl dreaming of love in a world where a person's worth is defined by money and social status. Larisa becomes a hostage to other people's decisions, and her sincerity proves powerless against cold calculation.
