Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814—1841) — one of the most revered and beloved Russian poets and writers. During his lifetime, Lermontov published very little: he was extremely self-critical and strict with his work. He wrote poems, dramas, and prose for 10 years before daring to compile a small collection. All his works are characterized by a combination of simplicity and elevation, naturalness and originality, and his ability to objectively portray the characters of his heroes, revealing one character through the perception of another, still captivates readers and critics alike.
