In the investigative system of the Russian Empire at the end of the 19th century, a special role was played by the vorolovs – agents who, for a fee, sought out dangerous criminals. In a world where passports have no photographs and checking alibis takes months, one can only rely on experience and intuition. Now, after the suspicious death of a theater prima, investigator Pyotr Alexandrovich Azarevich has four suspects, two actresses, each of whom could become the next victim of an invisible killer, very little time, and no right to make mistakes.
